We've already had the pleasure of checking out the Aigo Patriot in its natural habitat, and now we're finally being treated to the same with its Gigabyte-branded counterpart. The Atom-based MID has been unboxed all official-like over at UMPC Fever, and the photographer didn't even shy away from snapping a few with the lid off. Have a look yourself in the read link below, but don't get too attached -- so far as we can tell, it'll cost you a pretty penny to get it imported from a foreign land.

Video - of retail package...(Non English):
MID’s been out for a while, and there’s some EEEBuntu builds based upon it.
Don’t think it’d get me to give up my EeePC laptop though. Admittedly, my laptop’s twice as big as that, but my guess is that it’s also half the price (since my laptop ran under $299.)
Wonder if it’ll run on a Treo 700p.
The Ubuntu?
All I see is Syncing issues with the Palm and Ubuntu.

Prolly not < |:(~
Ubuntu version coming to mobile devices
************************EXCERPT**************************
June 3, 2008 8:00 AM PDT
A version of the popular Ubuntu Linux operating system is coming later this year for mobile Internet devices and mini-notebooks.
Canonical, the commercial sponsor of Ubuntu, said on Monday that it plans to demonstrate the new version, called Ubuntu Netbook Remix, at the Computex trade show in Taiwan this week.
Smaller devices based on Intel's Atom processor are all the rage with PC makers lately. Manufacturers such as Acer and others are planning devices.
The Ubuntu release, expected later this year, will be based on the standard Ubuntu Desktop Edition and reworked for Atom-based mobile devices, Canonical said.
Very cool. I wonder if I can put Windows 7 on it.

Last week at Computex Taipei the Canonical OEM team had unveiled Netbook Remix. Netbook Remix is based upon the stock package selection found in Ubuntu but with specific optimizations for Mobile Internet Devices and Ultra Mobile PCs
Canonical's Netbook Remix won't be appearing on mobile devices until later this year -- and these software changes are still very much under development -- but interested parties can already check out the source-code and Debian packages for this work. Canonical is publishing this work under the GNU GPLv3 license. For now this work isn't available through any of the Ubuntu repositories, but the packages are hosted within a Launchpad PPA (Personal Package Archive). The Debian repository for Netbook Remix is here for the time being.
Microsoft is probably at work right now.
Thanks for the post. About a year or so ago, I posted about the predecessor to Ubuntu Mobile, then called CE II. I was able to get my hands on that and loaded it on an HTC with a TI OMAP 850.
The OS, while not touch, was just ok, and the radio/phone was junk, at best, although wireless worked well. Then, they scrapped it for, what we now know is, Ubuntu Mobile.
While I’m not in the loop, the word I’m hearing is that it’s as good as any HP or Dell Pocket PC Phone Edition on the market, not quite as good as some HTC’s or the iPhone...yet. Which is odd, since HTC makes some of the HP and Dells.
Notable differences are, first and most important, a real terminal! Woo-hoo! Plus the fact that most any Linux app is installable and usable. Notice in the vid that OO 2.3 SUITE is started and running. As well, several full size port connectors (ie USB, headphone) are used instead of proprietary ones.
It’s really starting to become exciting, and I can’t wait for a production model to hit and compare it to my current favorite, the Touch HD.
BTW, Canonical is on the verge of profitability and there is rumor of an acquisition in the works (meaning them acquiring another company). Anyone know anything about that?
I’d love me some ubuntu if it was easier to add ap’s
