After I complete the paperwork, I will be asking everyone to say a little prayer on our behalf. God’s help is more realiable than luck.:)

You've got one from me, Amy. You've been such a wonderful parent to her for several years now - can't imagine there will be any problem with making you her legal guardian.

I’m undecided what to do. I will probably see if I can talk to an attorney before I do anything.

In the instructions, I find that I need to get signatures of her parents and both sets of grandparents. Oh My. I know my brother would sign and I think his ex-wife would. Since my niece is in big trouble again, I think she would sign.

I’ve been trying to decide if it would stir up a hornet’s nest if I start looking for her father and his parents. Whenever the father is working, he has $214.00/per month withheld from his check. The checks have been pretty steady but last month I received a check for $46.00. He and my niece were never married and he hasn’t seen Marissa since she was a baby. I talked to his father once and was very uncomfortable. I wondered why he waited until she was 5 years old to decid he wanted to see her and take her places. I bluffed him (I think); I haven’t heard from him for about 4 years.

I wonder if I should leave well enough alone and continue to carry notarized papers with her Mom’s signature whenever we go out of state.

I’m scared; I do not want to take a chance on some stranger taking her away from me. She is MINE! If need be, the school and the church will write letters for me. I’m just in a turmoil right now.

Time to get an attorney’s advice.
