as I recall, to refute my claim that the category of schizophrenia is an overly heterogenous diagnostic category. your recollection is faulty. I brought it up to point out that, in the pre-drug era, the illness (or "the illness" as you prefer) was characterized as a chronic, unremitting downhill course. Truthfully, I believe schizophrenics in their 60's and 70's who have been maintained on medications for the past several decades generally have a better outcome today.
