An "urban explorer" (someone who goes around looking into old and abandoned buildings, I guess...), tells a friend about a dead body in one of the buildings he was in. The friend calls a reporter who then calls the police. Apparently no one wants to be "on the record" for finding the dead body. It's encased in ice (apparently water collecting at the bottom of an elevator shaft).
The reporter checks it out first, to see if it's a hoax or not. But, there is a dead body there with the feet, only, sticking out of the ice. There's a lot of homeless living around there and the reporter finds out from others that they've seen the body there for at least a month. Apparently no one wants to bother with calling the police.
The reporter calls the police, and they tell him to call 911. He does and the woman seems confused by what the reporter is saying. 911 calls back to the paper and asks where this building is. A day goes by and still no one comes out to get the dead body. Two more calls to 911 are made the next day and this time the Fire Department calls back and arranges to meet the reporter there. So, finally, after all those people saw it there, after one person calling another (i.e., the reporter) -- finally someone "official" goes out and gets the body...
What a deal!

[the link above has "two dots" after the www and two dots before the com -- just make it one dot and the link will go through. For some reason, even though the story is not quote, at all or excerpted and only the link is given, the "algorithm" on Free Republic wouldn't put it through. This is following the procedures, just like it said on the Free Republic page for excerpting and not quoting.]
It’s performance art being conducted by a very dedicated artist.

Detroit, figures. That place must be like something out of Dante’s Inferno, only colder.
As an aside...A lady called Rush the other day and stated that Detroit has 49% illiteracy. Rush seemed doubtful, but I checked online and she wasn’t far off. Detroit’s literacy rate is 47%.

You’re pretty darned fast for posting that link... :-)
Here’s “two feet up” for you... LOL...
Wow, that’s terrible. They’re worse than some third-world countries... I mean, you can’t get that kind of illiteracy rate in just a few years. That takes a generation or so to get there...
You seemed shocked, I mean come on it is Detroit after all.
I had just gotten through looking at the replies.
An incredible story — just unthinkable.
You said — “You seemed shocked, I mean come on it is Detroit after all.”
Well, not so shocked that a dead body is there or anything like that. That sort of thing happens in all cities. It’s just that no one wants to report it, others who are around there know about it for a month or more, even the police department doesn’t want to take the call and refers the caller to 911. The 911 call goes nowhere (i.e., nothing happens) and the guy has to make two more calls. And then lastly, the Fire Department finally gets on the stick and they want the guy to show them where, apparently... LOL...
OOPS! Detroit’s illiteracy rate is 47%, which I guess means 53% are literate.
It’s pretty close either way... LOL..
That’s like saying that every one out of two people on the street, I better not hand them a note, because they’re not going to be able to read it...
Sad isn’t it? How long have the dems been in control there? John Conyers represents a portion of Detroit, hard to tell if that’s the liteate half or the illiterate half.
Poor fools. It would only help them, but they are blind. No wonder they and all the others print journalists are dying.
