Ah. As kids we had an old neighbor lady who was not nice. She didn't like us chasing baseballs landing in gardens when we played in the empty lot next door. Until the day when once again a ball landed in her garden and I asked her politely if I could fetch it, promising to remain on the lawn and the walkways.
She was nice (to me) after that.
