Yup, good advice. If you’re using windows then the PrtSc button will copy the screen to the clipboard and then you can paste it into paint. I think Ctl-PrtSc will copy the currently open window.

You can use Alt+PrtSc to capture only the active window (instead of the entire desktop). If using Vista, there is a snipping tool built right in. OneNote has screen capture capability too, and a handy keyboard shortcut (Win+S).

For shareware, SnagIt is great.
