It is more like appeasing his muslim brothers. Note this is at the top of his agenda. Next up, demoralizing and denigrating our military.

This is all going to be so relentlessly political.

First they will identify the person there who has the best combination of sob story and slightly sketchy evidence. They'll throw out that evidence, declare him vindicated and dump the scumbucket onto the streets of Detroit. He will become the moonbat poster boy Obamiacs can tell themselves they liberated from the evil Bush regime by their brave votes. He probably won't commit any new terrorist act, because he'll be too busy appearing on Oprah, Leno, and Larry King and will be too well-known to get away with anything. Plus, he'll love the adoration.

Next, Obama will find some other guy who is a dirtbag of the first order (no shortage there) with a rock solid case and he'll throw the book at him to pretend that he's being tough on terrorism.

And the media will cheerleader every move as evidence that Obama is the actual savior they told us he is.

And when the newly emboldened terrorist cells take out a building in Miami or Chicago, it'll still be the hated Bush's fault, because the whole wide world loves Obama.

Well for better or worse, with these moves (Gitmo, and changes at the CIA) Obama has put his name on the WOT and relieved Bush. Actually, I thought he would leave himself more wiggle room than that. Hummm

I don’t think that closing Gitmo will really affect national security cause the US is pretty big, so I’d expect us to have more than one prison of that type. I think that Obama is just doing it to get brownie points with the international community, and all the prisoners will be moved to some other equivalent prison and the only real change will be their location. Heck, if it wasn’t for the huge prisoner abuse scandal there a few years back, the majority of both Americans and international politicians would probably either not know or not care about its existence or continued operation.
