From the "OMG What is Michelle wearing now?" files.

From the "OMG what is she wearing now?" files, Michelle Obama does it again; she managed to escape her handlers wearing yet another fashion atrocity.

One bad outfit you can forgive. But three, each worn to a major event, well, that starts to be more of a fashion statement - and the statement Michelle Obama is trying to make speaks volumes. Very, very loud volumes.

Lets recap:

Election night dress.
http://www.daylife.com/photo/08rNbxi2WW3yH
This is the dress that started it all. This horrid little number by Narciso Rodriguez was certainly eye-popping. Perhaps no one noticed that it made the new first lady look like a giant black widow spider. The addition of a cardigan to this busy, contemporary mess of a frock, was akin to putting a pashmina shawl over your cutoffs - it just didn't make sense.

The Inaugral Ball gown by Jason Wu.
http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/beauty/countdown-to-the-gown-live-blogging-michelle-obamas-inaugural-style-the-gown-is-by-jason-wu-354416/
At first glance this dress seemed okay, but after a few minutes of considering this feathery creation, it dawned on me how cheap and weird a one strap feathery prom gown looked on the first lady. It also finalized, at least for me, the notion that her figure might be part of the problem. All her dresses seem to fit oddly, which I suppose she can't help. You would think however, that would dictate to her or at least her handlers, that better choices were in order.

Don't Get me wrong, her figure isn't bad and lord knows I am not one to criticize anyone's figure for sure. Its just that her clothing choices don't seem to accentuate the positive. Even Hillary, no figure model herself, managed to pull off a sense of style and if she could do it, Michelle has no excuse.

The National Cathedral prayer service dress.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/21/AR2009012101029.html?wprss=rss_nation
For those of you who missed it, Michelle turned out in yet another glaring example of her um,. fashion sense. Let me try to describe; a gray, or maybe shades of green, giant, contemporary and floral print, a-line dress that from a distance (especially on TV) looked as if someone spayed our first lady with globs of paint.

The sheer number of adjectives needed to describe this dress should tell you it is pretty awful. Heard from the sidelines; "Where is the secret service? Someone has assaulted the first lady!" I can't imagine who suggested this outfit, or rather, who didn't pipe up and tell Michelle that maybe she shouldn't. I can't imagine anyone thinking this was a good idea.

Michelle has made many more fashion choices that are worthy of comment. I won't even go into the yellow lace suit with mis-matched shades of green gloves, shoes and a red handbag.

I have seen some commentary in the fashion rags about how Michelle is attempting to copy the style of Jackie O. Yeah. Perhaps they meant to say that she is attempting to interpret Jackie's style. Maybe its art, who knows. One thing is certain; Michelle O is not Jackie O. The only thing they do have in common is that much like her purported fashion role model she is certainly managing to define her own signature style.

Let hope for her sake that history neglects to note that this first lady was one feather headdress away from dressing like Cher circa 1972.

And yet you clicked on the thread. I have never understood people that open a thread only to complain about it’s being posted.”

The left has no manners. I intend to treat them the same way the Bush family has been treated. Within reason.

Bush said he was a uniter not a divider. It didn't work. We'll try their approach.

She’s tall, she’s just plain built big, she’s bowlegged, she has some figure problems (how many of us don’t?) let’s face it, and she hasn’t learned how to dress to cover them yet. Little hint for us ladies with less than perfect legs is to wear the dress below the knees, mid-calf is nice and for really tall ones it can be very elegant and attractive to wear something flowy down just above the ankles. Cut the neck low to make up for covering your legs. Her arms are pretty nicely shaped, she should make the most of that.

People, especially “big” people, often have trouble seeing their own figure problems and dress as though they don’t exist. If they tend to have outlandish taste, this can be a disaster.

I think the winter white coronation, er inaguration, gown is very pretty except what’s with that big fat single strap? It puts one in mind of a cyclops. Well, at least it’s on her left side.

Take it from a big girl, Michelle, you can successfully hide your figure flaws if you really put your mind to it.

You found a lovely picture. The media wasn’t so kind.

They hated her for ‘meddling’

I wouldn’t care if she wore a cardboard box, or something from the pages of a 1950’s National Geographic magazine. There just isn’t anything that’s going to make that Thing look good.

When I see her on TV, I know that she can’t breath on me and I know that she can’t touch me, but she still gives the creeps.

A beautiful lady is always a pleasure to look at, but true beauty comes from within, she has neither...... and she can’t create the illusion.

You can’t take someone who is ugly on the inside and make her look good on the outside. The ugliness shows through. Every time I see this witch I immediately think,...”Fred Sanford.”

BINGO! Michelle O has the perfect right to dress as she chooses as a private citizen in the privacy of her home, but when she is in her role as a public figure, then she needs to dress appropriately as the first lady and not be seen in any old curtains, slipcovers, or chenille bedspreads!

***There were pics of that red and black horror on a model and it still looked nasty.***

Yes, it did. What WAS she thinking about when she bought it?? Also, that same dress on a tall, thin model did NOT have the two black panels down the side which must have been added to try to make Michelle less hippy. It didn’t work.

What woman with ANY fashion sense would look at a gown on a model and think it would look the same on her?

Yes I understand you mean an A-line? What would look better too, and something I’ve always liked (and can’t remember the term) is the neckline with 3 V’s which can help give the appearance of a better bustline. A little bolero jacket would also draw the eyes up away from the hips. I think she can wear rich colors and bigger bolder patterns because she is still relatively young, they would look good with her skin tone (she’s much darker than the O) and she’s also tall. I have the feeling that she slouches like alot of tall people who aren’t real comfortable being taller than many around them.
I was lucky in that my mother sewed most of her clothes, and some of ours, and she preferred to sew Dior patterns and the like. I tagged along for many trips to the fabric store. Then there’s the years performing (ballet) which is ALL about appearances lol.
