WASHINGTON - Given the excitement in Washington this week, one would think that with inauguration of Barack Obama — and the departure of George W. Bush — the economy is about to spring back to life, the troops are all on their way home from Iraq, there will be health care coverage for all and, to quote a certain Obama foe turned Obama Secretary of State , “celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect.”

I think he has some time, maybe a year. But after that if he hasn’t parted the Red Sea, talk of hope and change is going to wear pretty thin. For my part, I didn’t want this marriage to start with.
With Republican leaders as bold and hard-charging as those we have in Congress, surely no more than eight years.

I believe it is not what he does to please or displease the conservatives that matters, it's when he fails to deliver on impossible promises to HIS people. Then they will turn on him. If there were a betting pool on how many days until BHO's approval rating falls below 50%, I would bet on about 6 months.
I suggest, to all those FReepers and conservative hand-wringers, those who say Marxism has arrived in the USA, that yeah, it has arrived in the form of a paper tiger. Bush couldn't make the bureaucracy do his will, neither will Obama be able to control the swirl of events, which would challange even an experienced political sage. He will just do what is expedient, as you can tell from his cabinet appointments, and try his best NOT to be a one-term President. Just like BC before him navigated straight toward the political center, easily winning re-election. Fact of the matter is, the President has much less influence than most people suppose.
Also, the Congressional elections in '10 will see gains in both houses for Republicans.
The Presidential election in '12 will feature two candidates falling all over themselves trying to prove how CENTRIST and MODERATE they are. This namby-pamby show will continue until the next terrorist attack on our soil ('May it NEVER happen').
Four years.
Then another four.
The MSM, Hollyweird and certain segments of our population are so enamored with Obama the honeymoon will never end.
No matter what he does and no matter the crisis, The One will get a pass. This will be like nothing ever seen in American politics.
