I need to suck-up to my boss.
He is a scotch drinker. I know nothing about scotch.
What can I purchase for him that will really impress him?
BTW — I forgot to mention the ultimate level of malt whisky tasting/consumption: joining the Malt Whisky Society:
The taste of malt bottled in “cask strength” and then cut with water in your glass is different and more complex than whisky that has been cut to 43% alcohol (aka “proof”) and bottled. “Cask strength” whisky is about 60 to 70% alcohol and must be cut with some water in your glass to “open it up” and make the “nose” come out.
You don't know what you are talking about.
Suggestion: See a good gastroenterologist ........ that leaves more 'vulin for me. ;D
LOL! No kidding.
I've met your boss and he's a lecherous old fool. Get him a night with a hooker.........(and secretly take pictures).
He'll be your friend forever and you'll likely get a promotion.
Did you get the email I sent?
“I don’t grovel very well. It’d be easier to spend the dough.”
lol! I love your attitude! GMTA.
Single malt Scotch. I usually buy the 20-40 year old range and spend between $60-$120. I don’t have a favorite but you can always go to a better liquor store that can help guide you. I usually give Scotch as gifts for the hosts at those “executive retreats” some larger companies put on. Usually they either take them home or open them during the nightly festivities.
Oh,wait...you said "suck up." I thought you said "sock up."
Never mind. ;-)
Dude, it isn’t just me. I’ve consumed bottles (plural) of the stuff in rooms full of Scots who liked it.
The next day, we were all (more than 12 of us) PNG at the office.
No, I don’t avoid any of the Islay malts.
The only malt I now avoid is Macallan. It is a serious disappointment since the Japanese took it over and tried to substitute a gas chromatograph for a sniffer’s nose.
Leave the gas chromatography to the perfume makers .......... and the Lagavulin to me. ;)
Yes you give really bad advice, I agree.
Wowsers, that's a knee-slapper, alright!!
You can not go wrong with this choice:
I know what you mean about Glenfiddich - it was one of the first I tried, and will do in a bar since it is usually as good as they have, but after I started trying the better stuff it comes up lacking. I get a martini instead when I am away from home.
Can you provide your opinion of Oban? I would rather my son spend well if he is going to buy me a bottle. Thanks
Oban is a very nice malt. No complaints whatsoever about Oban. A very attractive package, too.
There are many more malts than the ones I’ve listed - there are perhaps a dozen malts that we cannot get here in the US in any other way than joining the Malt Whisky Society.
If there’s anything I can help with about malts, please just ask. I’m not an expert, and I just know what I like, but there is no spirit I like more than single malt. I figure there’s no point in going through life drinking crappy spirits, so I’ll drink less but buy high quality stuff. There’s also no point in using slow computers, sleeping with cranky women or owning unreliable cars or inaccurate rifles. ;-)
