Thing is, I thought we were there. Black is now President of the United States.
Like, wow, that must be really profound because it rhymes.
“When black will not be asked to bet back, when brown can stick around...” is taken from a song written by blues singer Big Bill Broonzy entitled “Black, Brown and White” or “Get Back.” Stalinist balladeer Pet Seeger cut a recording of this tune on the Charter record label in 1948.
This little song that I'm singin' about,
People, you all know that it's true,
If you're black and gotta work for livin',
Now, this is what they will say to you,
They says: "If you was white,
You's alright,
If you was brown,
Stick around,
But if you's black, oh, brother,
Get back, get back, get back."
I was in a place one night,
They was all havin' fun,
They was all buyin' beer and wine,
But they would not sell me none.
They said: "If you was white,
You's alright,
If you was brown,
You could stick around,
But as you's black, hmm, hmm, brother,
Get back, get back, get back."
I went to an employment office,
I got a number and I got in line,
They called everybody's number,
But they never did call mine.
They said: "If you was white,
You's alright,
If you was brown,
You could stick around,
But as you's black, hmm, hmm, brother,
Get back, get back, get back."
Me and a man was workin' side by side,
Now, this is what it meant:
They was payin' him a dollar an hour,
And they was payin' me fifty cent.
They said: "If you was white,
You'd be alright,
If you was brown,
You could stick around,
But as you's black, oh, brother,
Get back, get back, get back."
I helped win sweet victories,
With my plow and hoe,
Now, I want you to tell me, brother,
What you gonna do 'bout the old Jim Crow?
Now, if you is white,
You's alright,
If you's brown,
Stick around,
But if you's black, oh, brother,
Get back, get back, get back.
I thought Lowery's rhyme was in poor taste and not appropriate for the occasion. But it's a Reverend Wright thing. Lowery's 87 and his thought patterns were formed a long time ago. Still, someone should a vetted and rejected that part of his benediction.
Nothing more than a two bit, sophomoric, Jesse Jackson type limerick.
BHO should be embarrassed, and if he isn't, I am for him!
I heard a skinhead in my public school speaking just like that poem about the hopes for change for the white race.
Multiculturalism treats everyone like the Nazies and other race regulators and quota makers of the world. It’s disgusting animalizing.
“”..when black will not be asked to get back,
when brown can stick around
when yellow can be mellow
when the red man can get ahead man
when white embraces what is right..” “
The sick part of this (to me, anyway) is that the Asian and Causcasian people around me at the time were not offended.
Also, some people didn’t understand the “red man” part...
I had to explain.
