A host of celebrities joined Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore to air their 2009 New Year's resolutions and pledges to the new U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday.
Stars like Eva Mendes, Nicole Richie, Ashlee Simpson, Courteney Cox, Eva Longoria Parker all agreed to make pledges on camera for a new MySpace.com campaign backed by Kutcher.
Inspired by the new President, in the video Simpson pledged to be "a great mother," Mendes offered to "volunteer more of my time to help children battling serious illnesses," and Longoria Parker promised to "plant 500 trees this year to help our planet."
Kutcher, who himself pledged on camera to "always represent my country with pride, dignity and honesty," says, "We are honoured to be working with MySpace to rally the entertainment industry to answer President-elect Barack Obama.s call to service.
"The Presidential Pledge is a platform for people across the nation and throughout the world to make a first-person commitment of service to our new President, articulating a specific intent or action to become an agent of positive change."
And his wife Moore, who produced and directed the MySpace.com video, perhaps took on the biggest pledge of all when she stood before the camera and stated, "I pledge to free one million people from slavery in the next five years."
Some things just leave you speechless.
I’ve been engaged in service all my life. First, to my family. Second, to my church. Third, to my community. I don’t need this poseur to tell me to “serve.” And I sure as heck am not going to be bullied into “serving” Leftist causes.
I just warned my son and my niece (both away at college) not to get caught up in that pledge crap.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me - GOD
Wow, not too full of herself now, is she.
Notice that there were no details of how she was going to accomplish this feat. Or even where one would find so many people in slavery (Outside of a muslim country & I'm sure she didn't mean one of those as that would be racist to imply that our way of doing things is better than their way of doing things)
“I pledge to free one million people from slavery...”
Thier Arab and African slavemasters won’t be happy about that.
I pledge to buy a V8 Mustang GT and drive fast...
“...its liberals who have to be begged to participate in their communities and country.”
And liberals only participate in their communities and for their country if a celebrity is attached to the cause.
It is moments like these that I am glad I cannot remember the last time I’ve paid to see a movie.
huck follywood
I thought we weren’t supposed to question their patriotism for the past 8 years. Now we find out they were holding back love for America and didn’t give a crap about their fellow man.
NOW that OBAMA(TM) is in “charge”, they want to give their service to America.
What changed?
What’s good news for America is bad news for the Democrat Party. They oppose this nation openly and outwardly when their Party does not hold the White House. They put Party before country every time.
And to make sure their PR handlers photograph every second of them doing so.
love your screen name
Hey Kelso,
How about spreading some of that money of yours out to us working class . After all, according to Obama, spreading out the wealth creates a better society....
Signed,

How does she plan to do that?
Invade with UN mandate? Ask Bush how that worked for him
So will she be taking on global prostitution where women are kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery?
Will she be taking on the United Nations?
Will she be taking on the Middle East which still practices slavery?
Speak up, Demi. What do you mean?
It’s clear why Bruce and Demi got divorced. He kept maturing into his 40s and 50s, and she went back to being a teenager, shacking up with a brain-dead numbskull like Kutcher.
“I pledge to do all I can to undermine the messiah and to block all things un-Amercian he tries to do. I pledge to fight to make sure he is not re-elected in 2012.”
