“Windows 7 Beta Free Down Crapload...
sorry “
So we take it you’ve actually used it or are you just pulling out the stock Windows bash out of your rear?
if you already download windows 7 previously, do you need to download it again to get the august 2009 expiration date
can this be run off a thumb drive?
No.
Windows 7 expires August 1st no matter which ‘build’ you have.
If you don’t have Build 70000, You may want to download it for the added updates, but more than likely you’re fine.
If you can boot from it, and it has at least 16 gb of space, then probably.
I meant Build 7000....not 70000....
:(
From what I've heard, it's vista with a new dress and makeup. There's no way this is a complete rewrite from vista. Not in this short of time.
I have 1 Win3.1, ~3 W95, ~4 W98SE, 0 WME, -5 W2k, ~2 WXP, 0 Vista, 0 Apple, ~4 Linux/BSD computers. Beta anything from M$ is not worth my time. QED.
Playing around with VirtualBox on an Athlon 3000+ machine, and Xen on a Core2 x86_64 version.
You play around with any VM configs?
I use rds/vm’s for corporate work (one server uses 160 vm’s)
each of those can server 40 term sessions
I have no issues with vista, I tried this beta, I really didnt see much difference, sidebar is gone and the task bar is a little different. seemed pretty stable I would imagine some the luddites here would say it sucks. 16 bit software...geez people there are things called UPDATE! lol.
no, he probably has dialup and would take 4 weeks to download it.
All I know is, for the majority of everyone who tried it, it was much better than Vista.
But there were some changes. The classic menu bar has faded away. Gone. Still, I think I will stick to OS X.
On the machine I'm trying out virtualbox, I'm trying to use the already installed Win2K partition. Can't find my W2K media to install into an image file from scratch, but I think it's taking issue with the GRUB MBR.
the secret command:
chainloader +1
(it’s burried in the man pages)
I went with Vista 2 years ago when I had to replace my laptop. What a waste of money! I much prefer the 2003 desktop that runs XP. What they did to Word is a crime.
I need to upgrade the hardware on my desktop, but I am very dubious about buying a new system with Windows 7.
Some of us downloaded and installed it this past weekend. I can dual boot Vista or Windows 7 now. I’m quite impressed with it so far. Why I’m even typing this reply from Windows 7.
I wouldn’t try to upgrade an old computer with Windows 7. XP is a fine operating system if you already have it.
The Windows haters have their own agenda. Take anything they say with a grain of salt.
There’s no need for a rewrite. Microsoft’s stated plan was for a new release three years after Vista and they are on pace for that. Windows 7 will largely be based on Vista, and with good reason - Vista is actually quite stable and secure.
