'Emmy-winning actor Patrick McGoohan, best known for starring in cult 1960s TV show The Prisoner, has died at the age of 80.
He died in Los Angeles after a short illness, his film producer son-in-law Cleve Landsberg said.
McGoohan played the character Six in the surreal 1960s show, filmed in the north Wales village of Portmeirion.'

Avengers.
1961 if memory serves.
The original series had Patrick McNee and the underrated Ian Hendry as two men tackling crime, Hendry’s character was if memory serves again, a doctor.
Hendry left after series 1, to be replaced with Honor Blackman, then Diana Rigg and finally Linda Thorson.
They showed a man in multiple masks that they called number 1 :D They also portrayed a missile as number one for part of the final episode.
Now that's a combustable cast combo. Strongly-committed Catholic Caviezel and gay activist anti-Catholic McKellen. Bet the off-camera interaction is interesting!
Before that he was “Secret Agent.”
Danger Man, as the original title was (it was changed in America to Secret Agent Man).
Thanks..vaguely recall Honor in the part..that gave her the bounce for the Pussy Galore role in Goldfinger...but only Diana Rigg is Mrs. Peel..the catsuit was awesome, and supposedly, Julie Newmar “stole” the look when she played Catwoman on the Batman TV show..
Ironic, as he turned Bond down in 1962.
The Avengers is my all-time favorite show. Danger Man, which became Secret Agent when expanded to an hour and aired in the U.S., would have been closer to an Avengers contemporary. Of course, many have regarded McGoohan’s character in The Prisoner to be a post-Danger Man/Secret Agent John Drake, and in one Prisoner episode he is referred to as “John” at one point.
Title song was great..who sang it?
Original title was ‘Danger Man’, changed for America.
“Who is this . . . who presumes to speak to us . . . as if we needed his counsel . . . .?” Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! Thud.
Watch online? Not unless I can use my TY as a monitor. Guess I gotta figure that out.
RIP
I miss the giant breast that kept capturing and returning him to The Village...
That sounds like the beginning of the show, The Time Tunnel. Two guys on that one.
"Rover" - the bubble monster thingy - was a weather balloon partially filled with water they pressed into service when their original evil guardian effect didn't work and they needed a substitute for the initial shoot. There were (and I think still are) annual conventions at Portmeirion, the weird little "town" where they shot most of the thing. It's a hotel. His "room" is a Prisoner memorabilia shop.
Sorry to hear about that. I discovered the Prisoner sometime in the 80s. Never saw Secret Agent.
I have disappointed myself. I overlooked a rare opportunity to employ the active verb ‘defenestrate’ in perfect rhythm.
Now that I think about it, “The Prisoner” was the original “Matrix”.
