'Emmy-winning actor Patrick McGoohan, best known for starring in cult 1960s TV show The Prisoner, has died at the age of 80.
He died in Los Angeles after a short illness, his film producer son-in-law Cleve Landsberg said.

He also played Edward Longshanks in
Braveheart. The world has lost a great actor.

and I hope for his sake there are no big bouncing balls waiting for him in the afterlife. I remember that as sort of a big ball of bubble gum. One time it came up from underwater when he was trying to escape by boat. There was never any explanation for what it was.

He was in one of my favorites.

RIP for one of my favorites. The Prisoner was, on the surface, a fairly typical individual-versus-society plot arc that ended up posing some very interesting questions that were not altogether congenial for people who thought they had the whole thing figured out. The scene in the final episode where he begins his testimony with "I..." and the jury chants "I I I! I I I!" was the first indication to my young and tender mind that things weren't quite as cut-and-dried as I imagined them to be. Brilliant effort, IMHO.

I could never get into the show. Have a question, though. Which came first, “the Prisoner” or the “Avengers?” Gawd, I loved Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel..

One of Patrick's best roles, my compliments Mr. Jazzy.
Ice Station Zebra is one my my all time favorite moves, ever since seeing it for the first time on a field trip in 5th grade (I think).
The scene where they loose control and the sub heads to the bottom remains one of the best dramatic scenes in any movie. One of Rock's best performances I think.

Ok, was this the show that had like a spinning wheel or something at the beginning or end of the show? Also, the man was constantly trying ot escape an island or village? If so, I have been trying to figure out the name of it for years. I used to watch it on Sunday nights and enjoyed it.

Maybe BBC America will replay them?
The AMC channel has done us all a great service. Full episodes of the entire The Prisoner series can be watched for free online at the American Movie Classics
website.

I especially enjoyed the ‘conference’ he had with Philip, his son’s military advisor.

Always a class act. Starred in the Disney’s Dr. Syn TV trilogy “The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh,” one of my all-time favorite Disney productions, which was just released on DVD at long last.

The Avengers was first by about six years (1961 - with Honor Blackman; Diana Rigg wasn't in it until '65). Try to imagine the effect on a horny teenage boy of Rigg in a leather catsuit. Yow-ZUH!
