Chattanooga Police Det. Kenneth Freeman will not face charges in an incident in which he shoved a 71-year-old greeter at the Wal-Mart in Collegedale to the floor after he tried to stop him while doing a receipts check.

>

A police report says a customer then told Det. Freeman, "You can't push down an old man" and began struggling with him. It says Det. Freeman then shoved that man, Gholom Ghassedi, through a glass door. Officers found Mr. Ghassedi with blood on his neck, but he declined medical treatment. Sgt. McPherson broke up the fight between Det. Freeman and Mr. Ghassedi.

Yeah, it’s a no-no, but still.... Is your response to someone who puts your hand on you to deck them? That just seems like an extreme example of antisocial behavior to me. I don’t like being touched much, but if someone puts their hand on me to get my attention, I don’t freak out.

LOL.

I liked this quote the best:

I shove people over in Wal-Mart all the time. It's the only way to get around. While I love the every day low prices, I can't stand the sweatpants-wearing shelf-butts who stand in the middle of walkways for indeterminate amounts of time gawking at cases of diet soda.

Well, if Detective Freeman isn't guilty, then I guess that the folks that trampled the WalMart greeter on Black Friday aren't guilty either. After all, it's only a WalMart worker. (/s)

This is right in my own area. I'll have to do some digging into this one to see what went down. I mean, besides the greeter who obviously went down to the floor.

Dumb cop is VERY lucky I was not there.

I would have preceived his actions a threat to the life of the 71 year old and placed to Ranger Ts in his skull.

Its called a Professional Courtesy.

Ordinary citizens who pushed down a Walmart greeter would have been arrested by the part time cop who worked there.

“Det. Freeman was involved in a scuffle with attorney Lloyd Levitt at the Courts Building in May 2007.”

I hava a friend married to a cop and SOME, I said some, of these guys are the biggest A$$e$ your ever going to meet.

I used to work out in a local gym with a couple of guys that were on the local SWAT team. Talk about attitudes - they had a serious chip on their shoulder, and constantly bragged to one another about their "take-downs" and such as though policing were a full-contact, mixed-martial-arts sport. I generally just smiled and said Hello to Starsky and Hutch, but I knew that they were NOT the two cops I'd want visiting my house at 0300 hrs.

Oh, and they did squats like wussies too.

Some of those comments indicate the geezer touched the cop.

If he tried to walk off without showing a reciept, he needed to be 'touched'. Preferably by store security, but I would think that the greeter can at least hold out an arm, make contact, and get someone's attention when needed.

However, I, too, have had a run in with Mr. Freeman. I represented my company in a situation where Det. Freeman was allowing removal of a deceased person's belongings to an ex. These issues should be resolved through a court and not an investigator. I followed the direction of my company policy and was treated as if I were a murderer. I was threatened, screamed at, cursed, threatened to be put in jail and portrayed to be a bad person.

The patrol officer that responded to my aide was also screamed at and belittled by Freeman. He told me "There was nothing I could do and the city would not do anything to him". He also continued to scream "I am the law. Fortunately for me, I had two other witnesses with me. Because I feel that I would be treated the same as the Walmart greeter.

I filed an Internal Affairs report and the investigator told me, "He has had numerous complaints." However, the investigating sergeant did not find that it was necessary for reprimand or action.

I have family in law enforcement and two attorneys stated that his behavior and actions could result in holding the city liable and he overstepped his authority. Unfortunately, he only received a promotion approximately 60 days after the investigation. See, his behavior and abuse of authority and the law is getting worse.

No, I don't deck anyone. If the greeter did touch him then I think the Det. should have shown his badge and informed the greeter that he can't legally do that. That action should be intimidating enough to deter any rational person.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh . . . and as it turns out . . .

the ‘good’ detective needs merely

a few

DOZEN

ANGER MANAGEMENT REFRESHER COURSES.

Then all will be well in GLOCKamora.

And the good citizens can walk about in WallyWorld confident that local PEACE keepers are

ON DUTY in THEIR ‘best’ interests.

They were both off duty, otherwise there would have been an officer present, legally speaking.

If you say. Would that mean they can't make arrests while off duty?

Actually, there are persistent reports that the PTB have scheduled a massive increase in their powers and policies vis a vis the serfs.

ANYONE observed, caught in a crime is to be shot dead instantly on site.

No expensive judge, jury etc. Just a bit of messy clean-up that more serfs can handle.

Also helps reach the goal of a world wide population of 200 million.

Would that mean they can't make arrests while off duty?

For what? Because a 71 year old employee of the establishment from which he acquired merchandise, dared to ask to see his receipt, after an alarm had sounded when they went through the door, and may have attempted to slow his exit?

Remember, Mr. "I AM the law" was not acting in any official capacity at the time.
