Alan Colmes will be a Hallmark of Americana Political/News Talk
opinion | 01-09-09 | brianbaldwin

We all watched H&C tonight. My favorite watch is, and always will be, a Rolex. I think, when Hannity gave Colmes that watch, it speaks to how much Hannity thinks of Alan Colmes.

We are at a real crossroads right now, the times can be both challenging, even frightening, but these times also seem to directly channel our nation into each day. And I feel like I am living by the hour and certainly we live in a 24 by 7 news cycle today, with technology bringing us our history real time right before our eyes. For me, FOX News Cable has been a direct part of my life for more than a decade and a part of the 24 by 7 news cycle that the majority of us now live and watch and breath.

Watching Hannity and Colmes on cable television has been so rewarding, so informative, and over the years I have come to appreciate the insightful commentary and coverage provided by Alan Colmes. For me, I cannot imagine Hannity without Colmes, and though I am a Republican it does not change the fact that there have been so many time I have been grateful to Alan Colmes in keeping me educated with a perspective that I have come to appreciate so much. It would seem, and it strikes me now as so strange, the glass is only half full if he leaves the “team” of H&C.

I do not understand exactly the purpose, or what plans FOX has, for the new programming -- but I have to say that I hope Alan Colmes continues on in the news and commentary business because he has become a hallmark of Americana political news talk, and certainly when I think of FOX, and I think of Hannity, I always think of Colmes. I see his face and hear his voice. He is part of my life.

I listen as well to Sirius satellite radio, and listen in when I can to Colmes on his FOX talk broadcast.

I think of the crossroads, I am standing right there, and I see not political crossroads, Republican or Democrat, but something much larger and serious that goes beyond party politics. Frankly, it would be better in my personal opinion if only the team of H&C could continue on. We need Hannity and we need Colmes at this time.

Technology has brought them across our fifty states and into our homes, and while I thank technology so much for what it has given me and my family, at this time, at this crossroads sometimes I ask myself if technology itself is threatening. Not the information age, which is welcome, but a sense that perhaps now technology itself is taking on it’s own form, away from us, perhaps even exceeding our understanding of how to use it and even falling to the hands of narrow minded fanatics as exampled in the Islamic extremists and religious extremists of all kinds. Where they take technology to brainwash their own children, where they take technology and compact big bombs into ever smaller cases and go out to kill the innocent.

H&C has let me be an observer. I see things happen right before my eyes. When Hannity and Colmes bring their commentary on the events as they report the news and share insightful guests, I have a sense of gratitude and excitement. While other news commentators and news agencies simply let us only be observers, there is a reason why Hannity and Colmes are such a success and that is because they bring us to action, to take part in the political process, we advance in our understanding and then participate – we certainly feel their energy.

That’s a new level of awareness for most of us. When politicians use slogans such as Change We Can Believe In, with H&C we are part of a conscious evolution as the world unfolds around us, we are beginning to really get plugged in and even can make a difference. I don’t know about you, but I have learned so much from H&C, and “time becomes immediate”, I am living in and for today. It is like being in a race.

I want to thank Alan Colmes so much, and want to say that today, more than ever, he needs to be there. I hope it will be so. It isn’t just wishing “good luck”, it is asking one to stay home with the family.

The Rolex is the kiss of death. Mike Francesa bought Chris “Mad Dog” Russo a Rolex for Christmas last year.

(They are sports talk show hosts here in the DPRNY/NJ and they are now separated)

Who?

crypt keeper Pictures, Images and Photos

This guy...

I'm sorry, but I just found Alan Colmes just unbearably nasty. It's not just the liberal point of view, I can watch and listen to Kirsten Powers and Mara Liason and while I rarely agree with them, at least they have civility.

I hope “Hannity” will be better than “Hannity’s America”.

I hate Alan, because he defends the most anti-American liberal policies for, what I suspect, are purely political reasons— but will miss him because at least it was entertaining.

I will miss him more if “Hannity” is as boring, or only slightly less boring than “Hannity’s America” or that Oliver North show which, I mean, I would rather watch Megyn Kelly defend atheists on O’Reilly than that.

Your right he is one nasty human being. I don’t think I realize how much of a scumbag Alan was till the whole Duke Lacrosse happened. I know it was his gig to be the lefty and sometimes defend the indefensible. But at some point you have to draw a line. That line is clearly innocent people who have never once did anything political in their young lives. Night after night he put them through hell while defended a lying whore, dirty cops and crocked DA. He did that for far to long for me to ever be able to excuse. I just hope one day he gets falsely accused of something and gets his name dragged through the mud.

Colmes can go pound sand. The hair splitting nit-picker who almost never found fault with his side of the isle. He must have kept his research team very busy finding fault with Republicans and excuses for democrats. He's just a DNC mouthpiece eveready with liberal talking points.

I'm glad to see him go, like you machogirl he gave me many a headache from screaming at my TV set.

Ditto. I am also glad to see Alan off the show. He is rude and condecending to those with whom he disagrees. Hannity can be as well in a different way..he hammers for the answer. Alan just gets snotty.
Off set that may be a whole different thing between these two men who are friends. But other than that I can’t stand Alan. I agree Kristin is a much better counterpoint person.

You have to be kidding. He received the same treatment as Geraldo “The Fake”, change channel. Again, please tell me that you are joking on this issue.

Colmes destroyed whatever respect I had for him as a foil to Hannity when Colmes re-published the demamation of Mrs. Palin’s family that had been created a short time earlier on Daily Kos.

I thought he had integrity, but was just misguided. He showed himself to be evil. Good riddance.

Ultimately, he is a liberal and they are dangerous to freedom and liberty. It is their ideas that are dangerous and destructive, it is not that they as people can’t be delightful and close friends.

I’m not saying that I feel they should be silenced because what they represent (social decay, loss of liberty, government intrusion etc.) needs exposure so a free and informed people can reject those ideas in favor of freedom and liberty. I just feel that fawning over them as if their ideas are equally valorous is counter-productive.

If Hannity needs to have a partner to represent the liberal position, then Colmes was just the creepy guy to represent those creepy ideas.

All seriousness aside, I too appreciated the show most of the time because it showed, consistently, the flaws in liberalism and the value of conservatism.

I’ll not miss Alan Colmes. Either he believes the stuff he has been spouting, or he has just been playing a role.

I thought it was a joke as well.

Colmes is a rude, condescending, obnoxious, whiney, stupid, classless, flaming liberal. He proves beyond a shadow of dout that liberalism is a mental disorder. It defies rational thought.

It was obvious from last night’s show that Hannity has more decency in one finger than Colmes. Colmes displayed his contempt for Hannity right to the end. Hannity said some truly kind and respectful things to Colmes and Colmes obviously felt he should say something along the same line back to Hannity, but couldn’t even pull it off.

I will be glad I can stop yelling at my television - it took a lot of verbal abuse because of that nasty ferret.

K - I feel better. Now on with the day.
