Black Charters at Risk of Closure

In a scene that's becoming frustratingly familiar to supporters of predominantly black charter schools, two Raleigh charters are in danger of being closed by the state.

I hope that quote follows Gerber everywhere he goes.

By the way, he might be right. Since charter schools have more freedom that traditional schools, but use tax dollars, they should have higher standards than other schools. I don’t think he meant that though.

One sympathizes with an institution starting with a low-performing population, but the information is “out there” on what works to improve the basic academic results with these students. If a school is not seeing improvement, then it’s a reasonable assumption that it’s not trying what’s known to work.
