My youngest is almost out of children's clothes. This would have killed the family budget if it had gone into effect sooner. In this economy, I don't see how families can afford this. The cost of the lead testing will be passed on to us making the clothes that much more expensive.
This is one of my first posts here, but I felt it was worth pointing out. If anyone knows how to put the links in, please do.

Y’all missed the more orwellian implications of a law such as this. Clearly, kids might be poisoned by the chemicals contained in children’s books and textbooks produced before this law goes into effect.

I didn’t read all the comments, but I’m wondering what this will do to garage sales, and more importantly, the Salvation Army and the like.

Our house is an 1891 Victorian--NO CLOSETS. I don't know what the folks in Victorian times had against closets, but it must have been something, because you will not find an original closet in most Vic homes. This means that all of our clothing (two adults, three growing boys) has to fit in our dressers.
This means that nearly all of our gently used clothes goes non-prof.
We don't have in-house hand me downs in our home--we just don't have the storage room. Not only that, but we're blessed to be able to afford to replace clothing as it is needed. Our boys enjoy getting their outgrown clothing ready to take to Goodwill (or wherever); they love feeling that they are helping out less fortunate members of our community.
Garage sales are a way around this stupidity. We'll probably have a sale each spring now, and the money we make will be donated to the local non-profs that can no longer take our clothing. What are the feds going to do? Read every classified in every paper and bust every household having a sale? Freaking idiots. Pardon my language, but there you go.

Reading an article like this (and I have read several versions by now, all basically consistent) makes me want to go out and tear the airbags out of my cars, smash my motorcycle helmets, toss the trigger locks on my pistols, cancel my car insurance, refuse to take vaccinations, rip out the lo flow toilet (I already did), and spray paint smears toward China on WalMart.

More grotesque nannystateism. Stupid pieces of human garbage. When I was a child I used to help out in organizing our own garage sale, it was a fun time. And local garage sales around the neighborhood were always a fun visit.
We are feeding this parasitic intestinal worm of a government. People should just stop paying taxes.
