Nothing personal against San Diego but any team that had to win its last game to be "divisional" champ and STILL doesn't have a winning record, shouldn't be in the playoffs.

The only alternative is to cut the number of divisions down and that's simply isn't going to work as you have 32 teams neatly divided into 4-team divisions by geographical area.

Rules are rules. You win the division, you should host a playoff game. Period.

Not necessarily for every division...Miami is in w/ 3 Northeastern teams, and Dallas with 3 mid-atlantic teams(to preserve traditions).

Well, not quite period.

I would submit that if a division is so pathetic that an 8-8 team wins, then their position defaults to the 3rd best wild card team.

But, it's all moot. It certainly won't happen and watch, San Diego will probably win the super bowl ;-)
