Doggy detective finds missing Fort Worth police canine

For anyone keeping score at home, here’s the tally: Fort Worth police helicopter: 0, Godiva the search dog: 1.

Fort Worth police officers lost one of their own on New Years Day when Loki, a search and rescue canine, chewed through the fence of his handler’s backyard and escaped into the streets of Fort Worth.

After searching for hours with a helicopter and police cruisers, Fort Worth police called in Godiva, a chocolate Labrador, from Dog Gone Detectives — a firm that specializes in finding lost pets.

Within 15 minutes, Godiva had hunted down Loki about a half mile away from the backyard where he escaped.

“Usually, it isn’t that easy,” said Kat Manning, the co-owner of Dog Gone Detectives. “We got on the trail. Then all of the sudden, I looked up and there he was. He was just hanging out.”

That face looks awfully golden retriever to me.

I love the labs. They are such fun dogs and they have the best field trial and show stories. That’s how my friend’s younger mastiff won a ribbon at the field trial. He went out in the water to retrieve when the lab pups would not. Rumour thinks he’s a lab anyway. He never knew anything else. LOL

Shelly sounds like the perfect retriever. She is not distracted and that’s good.

Yup, I agree, that dog has golden in it. Interesting what beautiful pigment it has also!

I always found the field people were very nice to me when I took my *swamp collies* out to run JH tests. They were much nicer than conformation people are!

My only complaint is that she is a loudmouth -- always has something to say, whether barking, growling, whining, singing, you name it. Shelley on the other hand is as silent as a fish, she almost never says anything.

I'm going to make a concerted effort to teach "QUIET!" with the E-collar.

LOL I’ve been there and done that! I am, btw the world’s worst handler. I once put a point on a puppy after the judge decided he had to give me a handling lesson and was almost making fun of me! I think he gave us the point because he started to feel sorry for me!

I unfortunately see pure bred goldens who don’t retrieve. And, my first show bitch, who got a WC and 2 JH legs (beginning field titles) never cared about balls or toys or bumpers, but REAL BIRDS? She was there! So, not chasing a stick doesn’t nec mean no retrieving interest.

Sorry, didn’t read you questioning her name. I let my husband name her and it’s better than Cotton Ball which he seems to be so fond of. Anyway, I really like it and suits her to a T.

Most people don’t know what they’re looking at when they look at a litter of 7 or 8 week old puppies anyway. A young puppy is a pig in a poke, so to speak. You buy from a reputable breeder who stands behind what he or she breeds, and in general you do better to let them do the choosing for you. (I know most people don’t like that idea, but if the person is an expert in their breed and they’ve been doing it awhile, they have a MUCH better idea of what each puppy will be like down the road).

I am so glad you showed that on the Panda Shepherd colors. Franka(or Frankie as we call her)is my Honey Pickle’s grandmother and Flash was that very first Panda Shepherd.
