This confuses me. He was already married to someone else so I would think his marriage to Stanley Ann was not legal. Why would a divorce be necessary under those circumstances?

I read somewhere that the ‘marriages’ that Obama Sr. entered into in Kenya were not legal, just tribal things not recognized as legal in the U.S.

He was not legally married to the woman in Kenya. It was a “Tribal” marraige not recognized by the British Government, the government that presided over Obama Sr.

So he wasn’t really and technically married.
