Before they go peeing in the tent, the eco-people who prefer solar instead of coal should look at the amount of cleared acreage a solar powered system requires to produce the same amount of energy a coal burning power plant produces.

Then they need to calculate the cost of building each and determine how long each system can operate, as well as coming up with a way to maintain the flow of energy at night or on less than optimal days for the solar plant.

Lunch is now free, but it means skipping suppers and paying two or three times as much for breakfast.

CA mandates that any company building a solar plant must buy 4 times the acreage the plant would occupy of similar undisturbed land and leave it pristine. I know of at least one company that decided to forget building one because that made the cost too prohibitive.
