It’s probably true that this is becoming more common because of all the third worlders moving in from nations where backyard chickens were everywhere, and an economic advantage. But anyone who’s ever eaten fresh laid eggs to compare the flavor to the store bought variety might consider having a few back yard laying hens.
I’d recently thought about getting a half dozen layers and a rooster, but I live in an area where it’d be no problem.

Actually it was quite a feather in my cap but I didn’t want a poultry thing like that to go to my head.

Well, as long as they don’t try to nurse.

I agree with TonyStark and believe your experience to be the exception rather than the rule. What next? Goats tied up to front stoops and pigs feeding in fenced yards?

People who keep chicken's as pets are as worhtless as hensh*t on a pump handle!
Over here where fighting cocks are raised in neighborhoods everywhere, roosters will crow when the neighbor turns on the bathroom light at night.
My grandfather had chickens, my uncles had chickens, my father had chickens and taking care of feeding, mucking out the coops, gathering eggs and slaughtering the three year olds was done by the kids...a family tradition. I hate chickens.

I saw a fox in the neighborhood this morning.
Im not sure, but it looked like he was carrying a frying pan and a sack of flour, and heading to my clucking neighbors house.
