So very lovely and cheery, Billie! Cannot listen to “On Golden Pond” but it won’t be long now. My son has been here this morning. He and another co-worker decided I needed more memory. (the kind of memory you can buy). Don’t ask me too many questions as I am so computer illiterate, its pathetic. It has been ordered already and we should get it in 3-4 days.

My hard drive has 15 GIG free. He said my current memory is 245 megabytes and he is upgrading to 1 gigabyte as soon as it arrives. This language blows my mind. Too bad he couldn’t order (me) a little more memory....LOL! And I hope I’ve got all the numbers correct. (I made notes..)

COMPUTER CONFUSION

A Computer was something on TV
From a science fiction show of note
A Window was something you hated to clean
And RAM was the cousin of a goat

MEG was the name of my girlfriend
And GIG was a job for the nights
Now they all mean different things
And that really mega-bytes

An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano

Memory was something you lost with age
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3.5’ floppy
You hoped nobody found out

Compress was something you did to the garbage
Not something you did to a file
And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for a while

Log on was adding wood to the fire
Hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode

Cut you did with a pocket knife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider's home
And a virus was the flu

I guess I'll stick to my pen and paper
And the memory in my head
I hear nobody’s been killed in a computer crash
But when it happens they wish they were dead!

Thank you, Jaycee. I thought the picture was so GOLDEN, I immediately thought of "On Golden Pond", and think you'll love the music once you can listen to it. At the very beginning, there is the faintest sound of the birds in the background, and when the piano takes over, it's so pretty.

It sounds like your numbers are about right. :) When I bought my XP machine about 4 years ago, I wanted to be sure I had LOTS of harddrive and memory, because I'd had my other one upgraded so many times, there wasn't room for any more memory or upgrades either!

I have 1024 MB of memory (which is 1 GB), and my harddrive is 228 GB. I've only used 17 GB, so there is 211 GB free. My Vista machine has 2 GB memory, but doesn't seem so because it takes so much more memory just to operate the system (I am told).

Anyway, I know you will be so glad to have yours running smoothly again!
