Yes I heard about it from the radio-info.com messageboard. I thought maybe they’d put Hannity or even Howie in (mentioned
it on the Howie thread). I wasn’t sure if the Springfield/Holyoke market was considered the same as Hartford (i.e., Howie couldn’t be on a Hartford station as
well?)
I do remember one time when I went to the Hartford area
and had a tough time getting WHYN due to thunderstorms!

And in Boston WBZ 1030 has apparently sacked overnight
Steve Leveille, weekenders Pat Desmarais and Lovell
Dyett, and sports guy Tom Cuddy (costcutting). Leveille
has called himself a liberal in the past...though it’s fun when he’s had “audio clip quiz” guy Mel Simons on. Not sure
if Desmarais was let go or not; think he’s libertarian.
Dyett is the long-running (but frequently pre-empted by
Bruins) African-American host who “loves you, loves you
madly”.

I would think Hartford is a separate radio market, but I'm not sure. Fortunately, I can get WHYN pretty clearly where I live so I can hear Howie Carr.

I don't think WTIC wants to spend the money on a syndicated show for the 3-6pm time slot... it seems they are in a cost-cutting mode. Also, when I've e-mailed WTIC in the past (complaining about Colin McEnroe, and asking if they'd put Hannity into the 3-6pm slot), they really balked at the suggestion, insisting how "important" it is to put a local host in that slot, because the traffic and weather reports have to be done at certain times.

Competitor WDRC 1360 (Hartford) did a fine job with its traffic and weather reports when they had Hannity on the air, though. (WDRC now has local conservative Dan Lovallo on from 3-6pm.)

Yeah, I'm surprised WHYN fades out so easily... I don't know if it's a 50,000 watt station. If I drive to the next town over (Simsbury, CT), WHYN starts getting static-y. Weird...

WHYN is only a 5000 watt station, right? It is tough to get it in Windsor Locks, let alone Hartford!

While Howie does a great job, and has national knowlege, but he doesn’t know Hartford area politics at all and would need a sidekick or something to open up a new market, he does too well in Boston because he KNOWS Boston!

Unless, Howie starts to market to NATIONAL instead of local?
