That's why programs like Rush Limbaugh drive them up a wall.
Indeed.
Lefties live in a fantasy bubble where 'everybody' is a liberal and all the 'really smart people' agree with them. Then they trot that presumption out in public in the form of a talk show with some snippy little self-absorbed twerp like Colin McEnroe and not only does it fail to gain an audience but sponsors pull away, too, making the lefty program untenable in a business environment. Even the heavily-subsidized Air America network failed.
Because liberals assume they are the anointed rulers of the peons (in their warped view of the world) they have a hard time facing the reality of conservative talk radio's success. They pretend it doesn't matter and that talk radio hosts and listeners are just 'the fringe', yet they belie that pose as they try to emulate conservative talk radio (with their liberal spin) and keep failing.
McEnroe was a puffed-up, pseudo-intellectual who tried to be witty at conservatives expense but just came off arrogant and basically humorless. Good riddance.
Diane Smith didn't annoy me as much as McEnroe but she was dead weight. Ray Dunaway is a smooth old radio pro who never needed a co-host...especially Diane Smith, a TV reject at that.
I agree that this is likely a money-saving move by WTIC but it can't hurt their ratings, either. I doubt many listeners will tune out because the dreary Colin McEnroe is gone. I also doubt that Diane Smith's departure will raise any howls of protest, either. They both had a good, long run. Times are getting tough and radio stations, businesses with heavy competition, cannot afford to pamper liberals with 'personalities' that no one really wants to hear.
Jim Vicevich, although not hard-core conservative, is fair, doesn't defer to liberals and makes intelligent comments on politics that most folks can agree with. Jim is a breath of fresh air in solidly liberal Connecticut. May he prosper.
Exactly right. I hope the Left never figures out the "secret" of successful talk radio programs!
Problems is, the Left owns just about everything else: TV, most newspapers and magazines, universities, the unions, the "Green movement", etc, etc....
>>they do realize that their Lefty programming isn’t paying the bills and something from the real world has to take its place.
yes and here in Boston Air America flopped (yes in Boston)
2 yrs ago, was taken off, and now “prog talk” is back—
on a weak station, and they have to BUY time for it. When
this inevitably flops they’ll say we need the Fairness
Doctrine.
