Very interesting numbers. When I see a team consistently jump out to good starts and then collapse down the stretch or lose quietly in the playoffs, my first thought is that the coach is driving his players too hard and wearing them down.

This, from what I understand, is exactly what has been Marty Schottenheimer's undoing throughout his career. He has a stellar regular-season record of 200-126-1, an abysmal post-season record of 5-13, and has the distinction of being the NFL head coach with the most wins since 1966 without ever coaching in the Super Bowl.

They’re trying to get people to actually watch the pro-bowl. It’s the least interesting all star game in professional sports and gets ratings somewhere in cable access numbers. Of course now nobody that’s playing in the SB will play, but really very few guys do both anyway, the list of “injuries” guys have to not play in the pro-bowl is epic and hilarious. As for Miami vs Honolulu the players make plenty of money they go to either whenever they want, the free trip stopped being a draw for players along time ago.

Good move by the Broncos. Too many years of mediocrity. I don’t think Shanahan’s “system” will work anymore. Not counting the playoffs in 03, they’ve gotten a little worse each year since 1999.

And out of the playoffs after #16. The NFL is a “what have you done for me lately” league, and 1st place for 16 week 6 days and 2 1/2 hours means absolutely nothing if 30 minutes later you’re not in the playoffs.

The memory is the first thing to go. Denver got smoked by Indianapolis 41-10 in the playoffs in 2003. They played in the AFC Championship in 2005.

I’ve been a Bronco fan since 1962 and can’t remember a more pathetic defensive showing over the course of a season

I bet they would love to have Joe Collier back.

His teams would put points on the board.

I agree, but Miami?! UGH! How about Vegas or Australia or . . . someplace? And why the PB and the SB in the same year? Do the NFL owners have something going on with Miami or something?

And yet Wade Phillips still has a job.

Not for long.

Miami is cheaper to get to. As far as the NFL is concerned there’s no such place as Vegas so that’s right out. Vegas isn’t allowed to advertise for tourism during an NFL game, heck NBC wasn’t allowed to advertise their show Vegas during a game. Australia has the same problem as Hawaii only more so, even further away, even more out of time synch with the continental US, even fewer people there interested in football.

Same city as the SB isn’t a bad idea. There will already be a ton of press there with nothing to do cover, maybe they’ll actually talk about the PB.

I don’t think Jerry is going to fire Wade, he would have already if that was his intention.

He didn't know ... until late this afternoon like the rest of us.
After all it's only December 30th ... more than enough time to swap out coaches for the 2009 NFL season.

Yeah, Collier was a great defensive "mind". His defenses kept the Broncos competitive in years when their offenses were mediocre. (most of the time) Unfortunately, we'll probably never see his likes here again.

I remember once Reeves bitching after a loss,
blaming the defense for not putting points on the board.
