> Wait, someone hired Mickey Roarke???
I enjoyed Mickey Rourke in “Year of the Dragon” — that was a very long time ago! Dunno if he’s done much since...
Rourke just did “The Wrestler”, (Starring Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei. Directed by Darren Aronofsky. R. 104 minutes. Advisory: Nudity, strong language, sexual situations and bloody wrestling scenes.) and by all indications will probably get an Oscar nomination.

There’s a reason for that. Many years ago, I represented a production company trying to get him to show up and finish a movie in a somewhat not-stupid way. IMHO, the man is a complete head case, and a jerk to boot. I don’t think the core problem is drugs or alcohol. It appears to come naturally. Although it’s possible getting loaded enhances his natural charm. These emails are certainly consistent with the charming fellow I dealt with.
I suspect he hasn’t worked much because not even Hollywood types want to deal with his crap (I’ve been out of the business for years now so this is speculation). The leading man needs to show up on time dressed and made up appropriately for the role. It also helps if he seems somewhat sober. If he doesn’t meet these basic requirements, he doesn’t stay a leading man very long.
For all the pretense to art, Hollywood is driven by money. And if you can’t finish the movie and deliver it to the folks who financed it, you lose a bunch of money.
I liked him in The Rainmaker.
