I never cut mine. If anything, my hair is longer now than it was back then. :^)

My husbands hair is longer than mine and has always been that way. Beard too.
We’d go broke trying to keep him clean shaven! Even shaving twice a day still leaves him with a 5 o’clock shadow. I think he was the only kid in 7th grade with a moustache. Very good hair gene.
