I don't think they do any more but California used to have a $5 bounty on coyotes.

The sheep ranchers in Utah used to give you a dressed out lamb for a coyote. When I was a kid San Bernadino County had a 50.05 bounty on blue jays. I used to use them for target practice and the bounty paid for the amunition.

I spent some time in San Bernardino when my dad was stationed at Norton. I remember the blue jays. They were everywhere, and my dad and his friends were out in force looking for them! I'd forgotten all about that. I also remember the coyote bounty. A number of years ago, my daughter had a sleep over in the livingroom. Since it was summer, the screen door was open. I got up to check on the girls and spooked a coyote right outside the SCREEN door looking in. The only thing I had handy was a pellet gun, so I helped her over the fence. I was told by a police officer the next day that had I used the 20ga, I would have been arrested for discharging within city limits. I asked what the coyote would have been charged with for ripping my daughter's face open, but he had no answer for that. I have an answer for the coyote next time, tho.

The thing I'd like to see a bounty on around here are the ground squirrels. Yesterday they were having a tea party and gift exchange out back. I counted 28 of them, and it ain't even spring yet.
