Mayor Bill White has decided to seek the U.S. Senate seat held by Kay Bailey Hutchison, should the two-term Republican resign next year to challenge the sitting governor, the Houston Chronicle has learned.
Ending months of speculation about his political future, White plans to announce his intentions at an event next week, according to several sources close to the mayor.

As for the Senate seat on the GOP side, I'd like Dewhurst or Granger. I really wish my local US rep, Ted Poe would run. He's opposed all the bailouts and is a true conservative. I would think that GOP should easily hold that seat.
I also hope our local state rep Dan Patrick would run for one of these higher offices as well.
It's not a bad seat.
If you think he is a moderate, we are in trouble.
Poe has been good on immigration too, hasn’t he?
And a supporter of the border agents.
At this point, I’m in the “Anyone But Perry” camp.
Just who is “White Eyes Hutchinson”, anyway?
Adopted by Indians? They were known to do that, you know.
;^)
Any one but White for Senate. Not an awful mayor of Houston, and though dull, not a bad guy himself. But the last thing we need is another “blue dog” Dem toeing the “REPO” line.
I’d like to see Frank Corte Jr. make a move from the State House http://www.house.state.tx.us/members/dist122/bio/corte.htm
And you would have a Gov. that is MORE immigrant friendly than Perry! Remember, she wrote and co-sponsored a bill to kill the fence funding here in Texas.
White eyes Hutchison’s seat! Sorry had to do it.
