If Rahm talked to Blago about who should replace Barry, big deal. Not illegal -- unless quid pro quo was involved. So Rahm should have said,

"Sure I talked to the Gov, so what".

And that would be that, end of story. But by denying everything, especially with news reports showing otherwise, he looks dirty, like he was in on the Pay To Play scam of Blago's. And according (cough) 'everyone' Rahm is supposed to be smart. The lie about talking to Blago is obvious and shows otherwise, that he's dumb as a post -- or a crook.

The funny thing is, that if he's really innocent, but lied to Fitz about talking to Blago, we know where that leads, ask Scooter Libby. Fitz will have him on at least two counts; Obstruction of Justice and Lying to a Federal Investigator.

The cover-up is always worse than the crime.

The bigger story here is that the Blagojevich investigation has been going on for as long as a couple of years, if my memory is correct.

Guys like Emanuel and Obama have to be wondering if the Feds have been wiretapping Blago for far longer than they realized -- and if they ever had any phone conversations with the guy that may have been tapped.

It kinda reminds me of a story about a municipality in New Jersey where the state police were conducting an investigation into graft and corruption by the mayor and a couple of council members who were taking bribes to vote in favor of certain planning board applications by real estate developers.

The state investigators wired up a hotel room where the meetings between the mayor and the representative for one of the developers were believed to be taking place.

To their surprise . . . and completely unrelated to their case, they found that the local judge for the municipality in question was using the hotel room for encounters with hookers.
