After the first 5-6 minutes of the movie, I thought oh this is another snoozer, then when Scholl was caught and interrogated, I found myself drawn into this movie like few others will do. When she was questioned, she kept saying I am apolitical, but when foolproof evidence was presented of her guilt, she proudly admitted her part. The scenes where she lists her opposition to Hitler such as his killing of mentally challenged people is worthy of any Oscar. In real life, her last statement was something like How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause. Such a fins, sunny day, and I have to go, But what does my death matter, if through us thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action.

Saw this movie a couple years ago - very compelling. No earth shattering special effects - but suspenseful & intense, at least for me. Kept wondering how the interrogation scenes would play out. Human beings portrayed like human beings caught in terrible circumstances, yet some of them choose to do the right thing.

We will not be silent.
We are your bad conscience.
The White Rose will give you no rest.
I saw this in the theater, and I have the DVD. It is an excellent film.

An anti-Nazi film? How refreshing! I’ve never seen one before. It seems we are inundated with anti-communist films. I realize that Lenin murdered almost as many people as Hitler, Stalin murdered twice as many people as Hitler, and Mao murdered even more people that did Stalin. But come on, who needs yet another anti-communist film? Oh I know some will carp that radical Islam is a threat and it should be addressed by more films. But don’t be fooled, the Nazi threat is a clear and present danger. We need more anti-Nazi films today. (s.)

I love this movie. I caught it a couple of years ago.
I recommend the movie “Longford”. Excellent.

I just saw this about five nights ago...brilliant stuff. The tone is just right, almost documentary, yet the tension becomes almost unbearable. And the depiction of Freisler, which might
seem over the top, is quite consistent with accounts of the period, maybe even understated.
Two thumbs way the hell up.

Thanks for the recommendation.
It won't be the first time I was introduced to Great films on WWII on FR, that I would otherwise probably never would of seen. Others;
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL 1998
(Italian: La vita è bella)
Do NOT watch it in English. You will enjoy it much more in Italian. The subtitles are easy to follow.

DOWNFALL 2004

“After the first 5-6 minutes of the movie, I thought oh this is another snoozer”
My Wife - who is turned off by historical docudramas felt the same way about Downfall when I first played it. At the beginning of the film she picked up the newspaper, a sure sign she will not be interested in the movie. Within the first few minutes she was drawn into the film. Before it was over with she was so choked-up and teary eyed, she could not talk.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will try to get this film while my son is home from college for Christmas.

I thank you for posting your review of this wonderful & timely movie. I am not sure if anyone mentioned that there was another movie made in Germany called “The White Rose” also excellent. There are many books about them. I am presently finishing a painting in homage to them. www.maureenthompson.com

I saw the movie a few months ago, and I thought it was excellent. Very compelling, heartbreaking story.
