Help-anyone got suggestions for a toy helicopter gift? (vanity)
Posted on 12/05/2008 11:07:58 AM PST by tpanther
I've been looking at these cool little remote-control toy helicopters for my 12 year old son, but does anyone have any experience with ones to get OR ones to avoid?
I'm worried about getting one that only flies for 5 minutes before it needs re-charging, or breaks sooner than that, or is underpowered etc. etc.
Any insight is much appreciated!

Merry Christmas,
I bought one for my kids two years ago. I actually bought two, but being the AH pilot that I am, I decided to teach my kids how to fly it before I learned myself. So after some tears and a little sweeping up of the patio, I put what was left of it back in the box and didn’t touch the other one for a couple of months.
I managed to to fly the thing and had fun with it. It was too hard for my 10 year old though. It is sitting home in the garage and I will look at the name on it as soon as I get there and email you it.
It wasn’t that expensive and the battery really lasted for a while.

From my experience, the thing will (most likely) end up broken from all the crashes while learning how to fly it and some models will not work outside because sunlight interferes with the infrared signal from the remote.

Check out the Amazon reviews for
R/C helicopters. I really like the user supplied reviews for providing a good sense of what to expect from a particular item.

Bought both the helicopter and the airhog plane for my 8 year old son. Heli was very hard to fly, plane was pretty easy but loves to get in trees.

I had one of those in the backyard. About four hours after I landed it, a damned SWAT team came and took it back.

LOL......well things that might crash to the ground are very likely to ‘crash to the ground’.
Our son has had remote controlled cars for ages and always had great fun with them, as several of his friends had them too.
Remote controlled boats are fun too.
