Chicagoans Melody LaLuz, 28, and Claudaniel Fabien, 30, shared their first kiss Saturday at the altar. The two teach abstinence at the city's public schools and practiced what they preached to their teenage students.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the couple had never kissed and that they had never been alone together in a house.

They were on tv. They wanted their marriage, relationship, sex with each other, to be totally special and totally within marriage. Kudos to them. It sure would stop the spread of AIDs if everyone would do this!

That’s why there was a veil over the bride’s face, it was the first time the groom saw the bride, in arranged marriages. They interviewed several women on tv who married in arranged marriages, and they sound more in love and happier than many of the ones who got married simply because they had the hots for each other. Too bad we don’t ALL wait till marriage for sexual relationships. AIDs and STDs would vanish!

Good question. Maybe it was their PR firm. ;)

A fried of ours is from India. He went to college with us in Oklahoma at OSU. He went back to India for the summers and he met and fell in love with his wife there. He took her to a movie and he put his arm around the back of her chair. She freaked out. She was raised NOT to do things like that. No touching or kissing until married. They are a very normal happy couple. She was raised under very strict dating codes.

Yeah? I’ll have to look again. I thought it looked like a sweet picture. I’m not saying I think everyone should follow their example, but it looks like it worked for them -it’s an option.

World’s shortest wedding reception, I bet.

She’s not turning her head to avoid him; they’re turning their heads for the kiss; had she wished to avoid his kiss, I doubt it would have lasted two minues.

That makes sense. Thank you. :-)

We probably would have many more stable marriages in this country if we practiced arranged marriage, but the notion of marrying for love is so prevalent in our society that I do not expect arranged marriages to make a comeback on a large scale.

Yes. I don’t see that she’s trying to avoid him. Yikes - I hope that’s not the case! It looks to me like they’re just happy and in love. (sigh...)

not TOO jaded, are you?

Most of us couldn’t/wouldn’t undertake the commitment this couple made, but it’s their lives, their choice. Who are any of us to mock their choice? We live in a country where illegitimacy runs up to 80% in certain jurisdictions with barely a batted eye. I say more power to ‘em.

I’d change that to “the notion of marrying for ephemeral lust is so prevalent in our society etc”.

Love is lasting. Love overlooks small character faults. Love doesn’t expect the other person to be “perfect” and fulfill all my wants and needs. Love doesn’t care when the other half loses a couple of teeth, some hair, or gets some wrinkles.

Love is about “you” and “us” and not about “me”. Love is loyalty and faithfulness even when the road is rough.

We need more real love and less mistaking the counterfeit for the gold.

I forgot to ping this one out. Very interesting discussion. Apparently to some here on FR, waiting until marriage for sex and kissing (which is just a continuum, really) is a terrible thing.

Interesting reactions this thread is bringing out.

It’s no one else’s business what a couple chooses to not do physically in their relationship.

I don’t get the condemnation of them for that. It says a lot about those condemning, though.

That’s awesome! My wife and I waited until we were at the altar and had said our vows before we kissed - and we’re GLAD we did. We also have a strong marriage with no regrets about the way we conducted ourselves before marriage.

I'm guessing we have some sluts and gigolos on here who are feeling a little guilty about their own pasts. Why else would they try to tear down someone else's purity, except that they are themselves filthy?
