Yes, because without conviction in the Senate by a vote (where my FR screen name comes from), the impeachment in the House is meaningless. The only exception is that UOX42 once made the unbelievable comment with a smirk, "Ah consider it a badge of honor."

Here is the what the constitution says: "Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law."

Had the senate done its duty in the Trial of Shame, UOX42 would have been out of politics forever.
