I have seen and heard all over the net … “Obama, show us your birth certificate”. It has been the subject of many blogs and online chat room discussions. And yet, little has been mentioned on the MSM networks.
I wish someone in the mainstream (Sean Hannity?) would just open the question up in a general sense to the American people.
“All over the blogosphere, people are opening up an interesting question about how we elect our Presidents. Our Constitution only has two prerequisites to becoming President of the United States, being over 35 years old, and being a natural born citizen of this country.
“What exactly is a natural born citizen, and how should our candidates prove that they meet that qualification? People wonder about President-elect Obama, because he may have been conferred citizenship of some other countries, and does that affect at all his American citizenship? We have expert scholar Dr. Blablabla here, who says it does not. Doctor?”
[Expert defines “natural born” as per the Constitution. He then explains why being given other citizenships through no request of your own has no effect on your American citizenship.]
“Some are also saying that one’s American parent needs to be a certain age to be able to confer American citizenship on his or her child. Is this true?”
[Expert explains the rule of how an American parent needs to have spent a certain number of years past the age of 14 in the United States, in order to confer citizenship to his/her baby. Then mentions that this is only an issue if the child were born outside the country.]
“And yet some are concerned that this could possibly effect our President-elect? How could this be, if he were born in Hawaii, which was indeed a state in 1961? What documentation do our candidates for President have to show, and to whom, in order to run for the presidency, to prove they’ve met the natural born requirement?”
Expert says, “It would only affect Barack Obama if he had not been born in the United States. A Birth Certificate would be the proof he would need, and one would assume that the DNC would have vetted that document before he was voted as the party’s nominee. Online some have seen a Certificate of Live Birth from Obama, but since Hawaii at the time would issue such a document even from those who were born on foreign soil, that would not have been the document he needed to prove natural born status.”
“So you are saying that the American people have no recourse to make sure that any of their future Presidents meet the requirements? They must just trust that the political party has seen them?”
Expert admits that no precedent has ever occurred where the American people had reason to wonder about their candidate’s legal “natural born” status before. Both agree that it would be a good idea to get something into place so that we know that these paltry requirements are met before an election.
Leave it to the viewers to realize they need to demand this be done.
