There is a huge body of knowledge on this site. Would like to know your favorite guitar solos. Please list: -name of song -band -player
What the late Reed did with a guitar was nothing short of incredible. Even Chet Atkins called him the best.
Here’s Malignant Narcissim off their live album (Snakes and Arrows Live 2007-2008). I hope Obama doesn’t ruin it by taking it for his theme song!
The DVD for this concert is coming out on Monday. It has GREAT sound. The link is from the live Snakes & Arrows album.

Roy Buchanan - “The Messiah Will Come Again”
I thought that this was a great song for Sarah Palin. (Guess who is the Snowdog and who is By-Tor!?) Too bad the story in the song ends up so much better.
By-Tor and the Snowdog
The tomb of Hades, lit by flickering torchlight
The nether world is gathered in the glare
Prince By-Tor takes the cavern to the north light
The sign of Eth is rising in the air.
By-Tor, knight of darkness,
Centurion of evil, devil’s prince.
Across the River Styx, out of the lamplight
His nemesis is waiting at the gate
The Snow Dog, ermine glowing in the damp night
Coal-black eyes shimmering with hate.
By-Tor and the Snow Dog
Square for battle, let the fray begin.
The battle’s over and the dust is clearing
Disciples of the Snow Dog sound the knell
Rejoicing echoes as the dawn is nearing
By-Tor in defeat retreats to Hell
Snow Dog is victorious
The land of the Overworld is saved again.
Chet Atkins - Yakety Axe
Mark Knopfler- Dire Straits-Sultans of Swing
crossroads, eric clapton during the cream years.
Tony Iommi - Snowblind
Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, “Bodhisatva” by Steely Dan
and a bunch of instrumentals:
“Cause We’ve Ended Now as Lovers” by Jeff Beck
“People Get Ready” by Jeff Beck
“Beck’s Bolero” by Jeff Beck
“Town Without Pity” by Ronnie Montrose
“Slaughter on Tenth Avenue” by Mick Ronson
the aforementioned “Cliffs of Dover” by Eric Johnson
Into the Lungs of Hell - Megadeth - Dave Mustaine
Almost anything Clapton does.
Note the guitar solo at 4:42, simple yet powerfully soulful ... Pete Townshend knows how to wrest every note from a guitar, that is until he smashes the damn thing! /lol
Albert Lee, he’s a picker... Country Boy is killer.
Jimi
Pali Gap
Villanova Junction (Woodstock “instrumental solo”)
Anything from ‘Hendrix in the West’ and ‘Band of Gypsys’
Hendrix said that Woodstock was the best he ever played.
After Hendrix there’s a ton of great guitar songs.
Try Cream’s ‘Crossroads’.
Anything from ‘Tightly Knit’ by Climax Blues Band.
Etc., etc., etc....
Three Days - Jane’s Addiction
