At my Father’s funeral in July, the choir sang a song I was not familiar with. They did a good job on Life’s Railway to Heaven and I recently decided to look it up on Youtube.

There was a version with Johnny Cash, the Carter Sisters, Lester Flatt and The Nitty Gritty Dirt band all together. I had forgotten just how good Johnny Cash could sing. Now I can’t get the tune out of my head.

Saw a documentary on Tom Petty the other day. I had no idea that Mr. Cash had sung I Won’t Back Down. They played part of the Cash version after Petty said after listening to Cash’s version that Petty almost wished Petty had not recorded the song as Cash sang it with such conviction. Petty Cash—LOL.

‘Nashville Skyline’ was the first Bob Dylan album I ever bought (1969) and ‘Girl from the North Country’ with Johnny Cash was a favorite from that album.

Dillon said that when he thinks of Cash he thinks of him as a religious figure. I thought this interesting especially seeing that Johnny had played with Dillon often before he became Dillon. I couldn't quite make out if he was implying that Johnny had a ‘religious’ sort of influence on him or (I am sure there are many ways to view this) as Dillon saw him more as a religious man. Either way Cash was a man of great admiration to the great musicians that play with him.

About 10 years ago, I saw a show for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (whatever). Cash was joined on stage for a ‘jam’ with several other musicians. John Mellencamp went up to the front of the stage and started acting like an ass. He screwed up the words to Ring of Fire and instead of just hanging back, kept jumping around Cash, who looked like he wanted to KILL Mellencamp.

I don’t think the Cougar knows how close he came to getting knifed on stage.

Sounded like “Bob Dylan screws up Cash” to me.

I missed this thread somehow. Carl Perkins is also on some of the Sun tracks.
