It's not uncommon for tiger sharks to attack green sea turtles, but it's not everyday you see it. Here are dramatic pictures of the ocean encounter in Hawaiian waters.
It happened at Maunalua Bay on east Oahu this past Monday.
With a shark this big, you can see why this did not go unnoticed by our viewer Augustus "Ogee" Santos and his crew.
They quickly jumped up, grabbed their camera and snapped this first shot (see below).
They heard a loud splash as this tiger shark estimated to be 14 feet long, emerged from the ocean making a direct hit on this helpless sea turtle.
In this second shot, a closer look at the ocean predator baring it's teeth during the attack. Crews estimate the turtle it was eating weighed about 200 pounds.
Just as quickly as it came, it went. The shark retreats into the depths as crews take a final snapshot of the tiger shark swimming away and heading back out to sea.
The moment, a part of the circle of life, but for the crew of the local Seabreeze Parasail Company, it's definitley an experience they say they will never forget.
I love snorkeling and scuba diving and windsurfing, and have been in the water off Hawaii a number of times, but this kind of thing always gives me the heebie jeebies. There are beasts that can kill you in the blink of an eye out there.
Cool story but crappy photos.
Thats the suburb where I grew up. I’ve scuba dived in that bay before and seen turtles, baracudas, and a large group of hammerhead sharks swim right by me. Thankfully, it was mating season and they aren’t interested in eating when they got hot shark lovin on the menu. But anytime a tiger shark is around, get the hell out of the water.
Didn’t the shark realize it was violating the Endangered Species Act? Why didn’t the Coast Guard or NOAA take action to prevent this?
Jumping into the water with a hungry tiger shark around to get a better picture is a Darwin Award winner in the making.
It recycled the shell?
Much Better

LOL!

Maybe you haven’t met a PETA freak in person..I have. Believe me, they would’ve jumped in to save the “poor, cute” turtle.
About one week ago, we returned from 2 weeks on the island of Kauai. We snorkeled and played in the water every day. We went swimming with the turtles on several occasions. My bride saw, and was within 6’ of, a reef shark that was stirring things up.
I think I wont be sharing this article with my Bride. ;>)
Glory glory what a shell of a way to die. And he ain’t gonna swim no more.
Boy you sure are on a Shark threading mode.
I suppose as camara/men hang out taking pics of sharks we can be sure a shark will eak anything it dang well instinctly chooses.
I dig the feeding habits of the Octopus and squid myself.
I was watching a doc the other night on how the Australian beaches have barriors to keep out the jelly fish from the Ocean fun waders but there is a almost micro deadly like jelly fish that they cannot make the net barrior small enough for and with the normal changes in oceanic changes thes lil suckers are really screwing up the Holiday Tourist ocean fun folks.
I live on the bay in frigid waters and had to go out and rescue my dog who got engantled years ago no it was not far out but knowing crab of all sorts loomed I choose to dog paddle out to my best friend not walk and had to strip down to bra but chose to keep the pants on.
Saved the dog though.
