How to add a state to my navigation bar

Posted on 11/16/2008 6:03:06 AM PST by Old_Grouch

I apologize in advance, but I cannot find a How To of basic FR setup. I would like to see all Oklahoma posts in my right-hand navigation bar, which has lots of other categories which I must have set up at some time in the past, but can't figure out how I set them up. I would think there would be a detailed manual of how to do things, but I sure can't find it. I looked in all the sections under Account. I see Manage Blocks but don't see how I can add new things to it. I found a place where I could subscribe to the Oklahoma posts, but they don't show up on my navigation bar. I am hoping I am not going to get jumped all over for posting this in the wrong place, because I didn't see a choice called Vanity, which is I guess what non-news posts are supposed to be called. I love FR but it seems like when people ask questions they get a lot of tongue-in-cheek answers and jokes, so I hope I will get directed to a location which really explains how to modify my interface.

Sorry, I can’t help you with that issue, but while you have the thread started, I’d like to take advantage of it to ask how to change my tagline.

I’ve searched and searched and can’t recall how to do it. grrr.

I think Obama knows how to add a state. Last I heard, he had 57 to choose from and that didn’t even include Alaska and Hawaii.

It's a reference guide Free Republic offers and quite helpful.

Help was offered to me when I first joined FR and it's only fair I 'pass it on'.

Good Luck and welcome.

thanks oh8~

I figured it out after all..I guess I thought it was much more complicated than it was.. *l*
I thought it was based in the original “set-up” somehow.

Hold off on that for a while. I suspect that our New World Order flags will be available when our social security numbers are tattooed on our arms by the new PTB.

on your next post, just type in your new tag line under the “reply”/post... it will remain the same until you change it again.

Thanks, I had seen that on the Home page, but that is general HTML help, not specific to Free Republic. I am trying to understand how to add or remove items from the right-hand menu bar or navigation bar, whatever it is called, which lists all the categories I selected somehow, sometime. I am not really a new member, I have been sending a monthly contribution to FR for quite a while. But I just read 99% of the time, and sometimes post a comment in a thread. I have never really learned how FR works beyond that.

I too have just set my state location and enabled Locale messages under Manage Blocks and have not seen it come up on the sidebar. I don’t have an answer for you. Perhaps you should contact the Admin Moderator and see if they can help you.

PS...other changes I made on the sidebar seemed to work under Manage Blocks but not the Locale messages.

Click on Freerepublic.com (upper left). This takes you to freerepublic.com/home.htm
Click on “Topics” Scroll down to “Local Topics” Click on your "Home State". This takes you to a page of a list of articles about your state.
At the bottom click on “Add to My Page” It is now added to you’re “My Page”.

Click here to manage your sidebar blocks. However I don’t think you can add state messages. You’ll have to go to your state board to see them.

Thank you, yes, I went to Manage Blocks, but as you say, you can’t add more categories there. I have Pennsylvania messages there, and I wanted to add Oklahoma messages, but I can’t figure out how I got PA there in the first place.

I suspect you have the ‘locale message’ block enabled and your home state is PA. Thus you can see those but you can’t add OK or some other state as far as I know.
