I don't want to even give them the word gay. That word was purloined several decades ago but let's be honest -- the original meaning of that word is never coming back. I can live with that. But I'll fight the gay lobby to the bitter end over the word "marriage."
Here's the phrase I always use: "Roommate Union." If two men or two women who share the same domicile wish to receive civil benefits comparable to a married couple, then I suggest they perform the paperwork and make it so. But it's not marriage: It's a civil "Roommate Union."
