Pete Townshend tips his hat to Obama - "...same as the old boss,” and suggested, “Maybe not.”

Pete Townshend is so impressed with President-elect Barack Obama that he has had to rethink the sentiment of his archly anti-political song “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

Who guitarist performed a solo acoustic version of the 37-year-old anthem in front of a few hundred fans at the Troubadour in West Hollywood on Friday.

Before playing it, Townshend said Obama’s decisive election victory on Tuesday was “the most wonderful result,” a comment that earned the loudest cheers of the evening.

And afterwards, he mused over the song’s cynical parting shot, “meet the old boss, it’s the same as the old boss,” and suggested, “Maybe not.”

” Abbie Hoffman grabbed Townshend’s mic at Woodstock and yelled “Free Rubin Sinclair”. Townshend “el kabonged” him with his SG. “

He booted his arse off the stage . He did NOT el kabong him with SG . Trust me - I - a 17 year old high school student who , together with a friend hitchhiked from CT , was there .

He and his brother were always known for being close with their money so they probably are not socialists.

My guess is they are liberal-leaning, at least - Ray was married to Chrissy Hynde, Dave is an admitted bisexual.

But I prefer to ignore the bio or politics when it comes to music. And it is too bad the Kinks were never that big here. All their hits from the Well-Respected era were perfect pop tunes.

And even though he is and was a wingnut, Pete Townshend is responsible for an awful lot of great songs and rock innovations. Without him, no Marshall stacks!

Why is something Pete Townshend said on stage getting you guys so wound up? It’s not like the guy gave a lecture on the evils of the right. He simply made a comment after playing a song. Stop being so childish.

Humorless comes to mind.

No. What I think is funny is you don’t know that it is actually the other way around. Townshend accidentally broke Daltrey’s nose back in 1969. In 1973 during the Quadrophenia rehearsals they had a confrontation and Daltrey knocked Townshend with one punch. No nose was broken however.
