Can you give a report on the nature of the problem. It would be nice to know these things.

I disagree. We don't need to broadcast FR's weak points, even after they're fixed. Now if this was part of a DOS attack, that's different as it affects potentially a lot of other sites that could be attacked at any time by whatever malevolent group has an axe to grind.

You said — “I disagree. We don’t need to broadcast FR’s weak points, even after they’re fixed. Now if this was part of a DOS attack, that’s different as it affects potentially a lot of other sites that could be attacked at any time by whatever malevolent group has an axe to grind.”

Come on..., that’s ridiculous...

Let me give you an example of how easy this is and causes no problems like you’re saying.

It boils down to something on the network (TCP/IP and/or network provider), a piece of hardware failed, an internal software malfunction (i.e., maybe discovered a bug in the board software), an outside hack (i.e., some intentional and purposeful vandal, also a DOS attack, maybe), a problem with the OS and/or gateway machine and its operation — and so on.

None of this kind of thing (i.e., saying it) gives anyone a “leg up” on anything that they don’t already know. In fact, some of them do absolutely nothing for someone else (as far as any malicious intent that they may have).

I mean, if you had a particular piece of hardware fail, that’s going to help no one. It’s simply something that happens to everyone, at various times. If it’s a problem that happened from the upstream provider (i.e., they goofed up or had a problem of their own, maybe their own hardware or their software...). That’s also something that is going to help no outside vandal in causing problems.

If it’s some bug in the board software (that brought things down), again, it’s something internal and it’s something to work on and solve, but nothing that is going to help an outsider cause any problems.

If it’s a DOS attack, well, the “outsider” already knows and if you say it’s that, it doesn’t help them either ... LOL...

So, I can’t see anything that is gong to help anyone on the outside cause trouble or problems here.

Thank you, BIG TIME! I thought the obama blackout had started already!

I imagine that thought crossed a lot of our minds. It sure did mine.

Dark times ahead.

Dark times ahead.

I've seen some pretty dark times in the past five years, but the light came back again, burning bright, even though the media and the majority of Americans said it never would.

We're not done yet. It takes blood, sweat and tears, and above all, resolving never, ever to give up.

Be determined not to be defeated and you won't be.

I agree, but we had an America loving President,Commander-in- Chief. Not this man, who doesn't even cover his heart when the National Anthem is played!

I believe in the goodness of the American people and of the greatness of our God to pull us through the next four years.Yes, we will fight, shed tears and even our blood to keep this the greatest country of the world!

What's up with Free Dominion?

I keep on being asked to download a file: application/x-msdos-program from http://dg.specificclick.net

What should I do?

I'd just be guessing, but after last Tuesday my guesses are more than 'tinged' with suspicion in that direction.

Maybe, after a day's solid rest, John (or one of the Mods) could throw us a hint ?

Jelibn (FR nick unknown) deserves big props for setting up a backup to that Yahoo site, the format of which, imho, totally blows.

I could be wrong, but I think the FR nick is jellybean.

Job well done at the backup site!

That would be correct. I set the site up back in September when FR went down for a couple of hours. By the time I had everthing ready to go, FR was back up so I didn't announce it.

Everyone is welcome to sign up at altfreerepublic.freeforums.org to use as a back-up should FR go down again.
