I believe the offer was $4000 towards college. I’m still have college loans to pay off and it “sounds” good but..
(a) No kid is going to pass that up- so it is mandatory in a sense- its like a government job
(b) It’s more spending- and where do they get off calling it a tax credit? It’s another handout
(c) Colleges will just raise their tuition

Let’s see... $4000 for 100 hours of community service per year for 4 years is still $10 an hour, so it would be more profitable to volunteer than it would be to get almost any other job your average college kid could get. It all sounds good, but correct me if I’m wrong, don’t you have to pay income tax to get a tax credit? And, if so, any kid who’s making enough to pay income tax isn’t going to need to do community-service jobs to get through college.
