Wrong. What cost McCain the election is that the only people that could possibly see him as a conservative were the religious right pro-lifers. He was good on that one issue and suddenly he is a ‘conservative’?

You are smokin' crack. You will find the Christian Right among the least supportive of McCain, and the Pro-Life among them...

McCain lost because the Conservatives stayed home. Plain and simple... His run up the middle-left cost him the right, and the election. A "Giuliani Gambit" of monumental proportions.

The Republicans had a couple of very good candidates in Romney and Rudy that would have won in a blowout. McCain is a national hero but he should not have gotten the nomination.

I am sure the Republicans, eager to move to the left, will embrace your foolish vision and run Romney up the flagpole next time... and they will lose horribly... massively, again.

McCain is a traitorous bastard, and an idiot to boot, and the only thing I can agree with you on is that he should not have gotten the nomination.

Fiscal conservatives will allow others to jump on board, it is the freaks of the religious right that insist on only someone like them.

FiCons jumping overboard after the bailout were McCain's final doom. They are not as forgiving as you let on, at least not on issues that are important to them.

That others emphasize social conservatism over your issues do not make them right or you right. In Reagan Conservatism, BOTH are right, and BOTH should be demanded of our leaders. The one who would be wrong is he that would vote his own interests without protecting the interests of other conservatives too.

That is why Reagan Conservatives vote only for Conservatives- those who embrace all three pillars of Conservatism- Without serving all three, we lose every time.

but there were 2 types of fiscal conservatives: the total libertarians and main street conservatives on one hand and then there were those that were for the bailout (WSJ, think tanks and other business groups). A no win issue.
