I agree.

The belief that there is some sort of correlation between football game wins and election wins makes no sense at all.

How do you scientifically examine such a correlation?

That streak was broken in ‘04. The Redskins lost but Bush won re-election.
But then, you’ve probably read that already - been posted a lot here -
and ignored it?

Blame the media. This is what I heard this morning.
If I heard correctly one of the CNBC reporters (Revell?) repeated
the lock-solid mantra “Redskins win their last game before the election
and the incumbent party stays in; Redskins lost last night.”
And he went on to say “that’s bad news for McCain”.

Chevron ( CVX) up +6% 4.32 at 78 as I type with 5.8 mil. volume. Sure looks like somethings up and I don't mean just the stock.

I would not read too much into market swings. Traders have already taken into account Obama's market-killing taxes in the downturns of the past several weeks (they even coined the term "the Obama tape"). This upturn could be based on other economic data occuring today. Also, the market does not like uncertainty, and there is anticipation that uncertainty of who will be president will soon be over.

So forget what the market does, just vote and drag your like-minded friends to the polls no matter what the exit polls and pundits say. This is going to be much closer than any of the pundits predicted, and it could still go either way.

Maybe they know an Obama win would mean a huge drop on the 5th?

The Day traders also know that Manufacturing hits 26-year low, hinting that recession has begun!

Here’s my naive “stock market indicator” in favor of President McCain:

Sirius-XM
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=SIRI

Barely up in the rally.
I know it’s a damaged stock, but if the market REALLY thought Obama
was on his way to the Oval Office and resurrecting the rotted corpse
of “The Fairness Doctrine”, I thought many said Sirius-XM should jump up
in anticipation of lots of “right-wing” talk shows fleeing there.

Sorry I haven’t had time to see if traditional radio stocks are up/down
on today’s rally.

These market movements are spurious, especially with minor segments like the dow. Established business and large volume players want state control of industry because that gives them (1) greater opportunities for rent seeking; and (2) greater opportunities for creating barriers to entry and diminishing competition. Under the Nazis, for instance, big business did very, very well. State controlled enterprises cannot be allowed to fail, must be protected from risk, etc.

If Zero wins, look for more of the economy to be put into the form of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. That’s great for shareholders of those companies and their corrupt management since they’re totally protected from downside risk, but the cost is higher taxes, lower standard of living, and less capacity for small business to innovate and employ.

I do blame the media, but that poster had to know something about it before posting.

Because, they wrote that this had happened “15 out of 16 times”. See, they knew that wasn’t a solid streak, but chose to omit that it was only as recently as ‘04 it was invalidated.

And I’ve seen the truth posted on every thread where this downer “factoid” was posted...that it ALWAYS proved true (and then FReepers would add...”except when it didn’t”).

For the people who don’t think the stock market activity today means anything, you are hilarious!

Thanks for the great laughs.
