Like I said, I might have my tinfoil hat screwed on too tight, but Selig unilaterally changing a league rule seems odd. And it would have deminished The ONE’s informerical on Wednesday if the Series was over.

Apparently this rule was already changed, post season games do not get shortened do to weather. Delayed, or suspended but never shortened.

Game 5 was suspended pursuant to Rule 4.12(a)(6), not because King Bud said so. Before 1980, the top of the sixth would have been voided and so the Phillies would have won 2-1 in 5 innings. Since 1980, the rule book says the scenario which occurred last night results in a suspended game. In 2007, the 1980 rule change was expanded to included any tied game that had completed at 5 innings (not merely where the visiting team tied the game in the top of an incomplete inning and the home team hadn't retaken the lead).

So this suspension is what the rule book has required since 1980. Copy & paste the link below to see what the rule book required, in this situation, before 1980 and from 1980-2006.
