'Rock legends Led Zeppelin are planning to tour and record but without frontman Robert Plant.

Bassist John Paul Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought after Plant ruled himself out.

The last time the band performed together was at the O2 arena in London in December 2007.

Speculation has since been rife that the surviving members of the band, with Jason Bonham, son of their late drummer John Bonham, would go back on the road.

Jones, speaking at a guitar show in Exeter, Devon said: "We are trying out a couple of singers.

"We want to do it. It's sounding great and we want to get on and get out there." '

I didn’t think it was a “train wreck”, but it was obvious to me that Plant wasn’t comfortable in those rock-n-roller shoes anymore. His musical taste has changed and he’s moving in that direction. It’s too bad for Zeppelin (and some people) but good for him.

How about the lead singer of Dread Zeppelin?

Beat me to it.

That would rule.

Led Zep without Robert Plant is not Led Zep. Period. Sorry.

Stewart threw his lot in with Jeff Beck in 1967 and was well on his way to stardom when Zep was still forming. In retrospect it wasn't a bad decision at all since it launched a solo career that eclipses most of the acts from the 70s.

Thanks Drumbo! BTW, i’m glad that Stewart said no. I can’t imagine Zep any other way than with Plant. And yeah, Stewart did just fine for himself. That all worked out for the best for everyone.

BINGO. Terry Reid has an amazing voice . Got to see and meet him last year , always a favorite ( also drinks a wee bit too much ) The original Jeff beck Group with Stewart and Ronnie Wood was one AMAZING band.

Tort Elvis. hmm?

Dread Zep just released a new album last year. Probably busy touring with that. Must have had some trouble with the Presley estate though, there is not enough Elvis schtick on it.

Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden would be the best choice. He clearly has his own style and is one of the few rock singers with the voice range that Robert Plant has.

It’s too bad Robert Palmer’s gone (RIP). Hey, David Lee Roth is probably looking for a gig (lol).

They should get Terry Reid.

The ORIGINAL choice for lead singer back in 1968, who STILL has a great voice and still makes music.

I saw Terry reid perform around 1969. He was great.

Thanks for those great cuts. I saw the Jeff Beck Group in 1968 at my local roller rink for $4. They were fantastic.
